ICONIC OFFICE BUILDING ADDITION
MULTIPLE DESIGN AWARDS
LEED GOLD
The original award winning North Carolina Biotechnology center office building is adored by its users. Honoring the building with a new addition that would be sympathetic as well as have its own identity was a significant challenge. The solution was a tall round form that provided the additional space required with a minimal impact on the form and function of the original building. We used thin panels of the matching stone and terra-cotta tiles to relate to the existing brick. A new first floor gathering space spills out into an exterior rain garden that filters rainwater from the building. The original building is lightly touched by a glass connector and seems to enjoy its new neighbor.
